Nueva Cocina Foods Named 2011 sofi™ Silver Finalist by NASFT
Two of Nueva Cocina’s soups honored in the Outstanding Soup, Stew, Bean, or Chili Category
MIAMI, FL (July 27, 2011) – Nueva Cocina Foods, Inc.’s (Nueva Cocina) the nation’s first line of packaged all-natural, authentic and contemporary, Latin rice dishes, seasonings and soups, announces that two of their soups, Spanish Style White Bean Soup and Latin Lentil Soup, have each been named Silver Finalist in the Outstanding Soup, Stew, Bean or Chili category for the 2011 sofi™ Awards. The sofi™ Awards, presented by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, Inc. (NASFT), have recognized excellence in the specialty foods and beverages industry for 39 years. Nueva Cocina’s Spanish Style White Bean Soup and Latin Lentil Soup are two of 125 sofiTM Silver Finalist chosen of a record 2,326 entries across 33 award categories.
“It is an honor that two of our soups have been named sofi™ Silver Finalist for 2011,” said Celeste De Armas, President & Co-Founder of Nueva Cocina Foods. “Both our Latin Lentil and Spanish Style White Bean soups were introduced to the market this year in an effort to continue providing varied choices in flavor that bridge the gap between traditional and new – by traditional we refer to the delicious tastes of Hispanic foods, and by new we mean premium quality and convenience.”
Nueva Cocina Foods was founded in 2005 by Celeste De Armas and Corina Mascaro. The two Cuban-born women shared a common vision to develop a wide variety of premium quality and traditional Latin inspired dishes, without artificial ingredients or gluten (all but two of their products are gluten-free.)
Among the awards Nueva Cocina Foods has received are “Best New Ethnic Food” by The Food and Beverages of the Americas trade show in Miami and “Best New Product Introduction” by Progressive Grocer magazine in 2005, the same year the brand launched. More recent is the “Best Latin/Spanish Rice” award by Real Simple magazine in 2008.
Lentil soup has been a Latin favorite for generations. Nueva Cocina’s Latin Lentil is rich in protein, fiber, vitamin A, and iron. Originating from the Spanish province of Galicia, our Spanish Style White Bean Soup makes for a delicious and hearty meal. Both soups are all-natural without skimping out on flavor. Corina Mascaro, Nueva Cocina’s Vice President and Co-Founder said, “Our Latin Lentil and Spanish Style White Bean soups get their flavor from a unique blend of aromatic ingredients known as sofrito, which includes a delicious blend of onion, garlic, sweet peppers and spices that are at the base of most Latin dishes.”
